Cllr Warasally distributes emergency water to Ward 20 residents

uThukela says the water supply challenges are due to a faulty compressor and that a replacement unit will be arriving soon.

Yesterday (July 11), Ward 20 Councillor Abbas Warasally, together with RASP Consultants, distributed water to residents in Aloe Park to help families affected by ongoing interruptions.

Community members in several parts of Ladysmith continue to endure water outages, leaving many households without a reliable water supply.

The emergency intervention by Warasally and RASP aimed to provide temporary relief while residents await the restoration of normal water supply.

Compressor fault affecting water production?

In a statement issued by uThukela District Municipality, they said all areas supplied by the Ezakheni Water Works are experiencing water supply challenges due to a faulty compressor.

According to the municipality, the treatment plant is currently operating at only half of its normal capacity because of the malfunctioning backwash compressor, resulting in reduced water production and supply to affected communities.

Replacement part expected on Monday

uThukela confirmed that a replacement backwash compressor has been ordered from the manufacturer in Johannesburg. The unit is expected to be collected on Monday (July 13) and installed as soon as it arrives.

Further updates will be provided as new information becomes available.

uThukela apologises to residents for the inconvenience caused and appeals for patience while repairs are being completed.
