Saturday’s running of the 21st Dundee July received high praise from KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli, who described the event as a powerful driver of tourism, economic growth and cultural heritage.

Premier Ntuli attended Saturday’s event alongside the MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Mntomuhle Khawula, MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs Reverend Musa Zondi, and other dignitaries.

Celebrating culture and tourism

Over the past two decades, the Dundee July has grown into one of KwaZulu-Natal’s flagship cultural and sporting events, combining traditional horse racing with fashion, music, arts and heritage.

The event attracts thousands of visitors each year, providing a platform to celebrate African culture while strengthening social cohesion.

Premier Ntuli said the Dundee July demonstrated how culture, sport and tourism could work together to create opportunities for communities and stimulate local economic activity.

A boost for local businesses

Ntuli said the annual event also benefits local businesses, traders, fashion designers, artists and the hospitality industry through increased visitor spending.

He commended the organisers, horse owners, riders, stakeholders and the Dundee community for preserving and growing an event that has become a highlight of KwaZulu-Natal’s tourism calendar.

The Premier added that the provincial government remains committed to supporting initiatives that preserve cultural heritage, promote tourism, strengthen local economies and create opportunities for communities across the province.
