Would-be Endumeni candidate Steenberg quits IFP

Shockwaves have hit Endumeni politics after the IFP's Ward 2 by-election candidate, Willie Steenberg, resigned from the party.

Willie Steenberg, who was earmarked to be the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) Ward 2 candidate, has announced his resignation from the party.

Steenberg, who in all likelihood had been selected to contest the Ward 2 seat, announced on social media on Friday afternoon.

His departure was quickly followed by a wave of resignations from members of the IFP’s Oval Branch, with several supporters also announcing they were leaving the party.

Steenberg said he would issue a full statement ‘soon’.

The resignations come just months before voters head to the polls on November 4.
