Dundee bowlers take honours at Northern Zone Fours

Dundee's ladies claimed the Northern Zone Fours title as the men's team narrowly missed out in a thrilling final.

Dundee Bowling Club celebrated an outstanding weekend after its ladies were crowned Northern Zone Fours champions, while the men’s team finished runners-up following a closely fought final.

Ladies produce superb comeback

Elsie de Jager, Jo-Ann Conolly, Yvonne Stuart and Taryn Bierbaum showed great determination to claim the title at Volksrust Bowling Club.

After falling behind 8-1 against Newcastle in the early stages, the Dundee quartet fought back to level the scores before pulling away to secure a well-deserved victory and the championship.

Men narrowly miss out

The men’s final proved just as dramatic.

Des Johnson, Andrew Collett, Dougie Slabbert and Dirk Wessels pushed Newcastle all the way before narrowly going down 12-11 in a thrilling contest that was decided on the final end.

Despite the defeat, Dundee’s men produced an excellent performance against strong opposition.

The successful weekend also secured qualification for the KwaZulu-Natal Country Bowls district playoffs, with both Dundee finalist teams advancing to the competition, which will be held in Ladysmith in September.
