Dundee Bowling Club enjoyed an outstanding weekend at the Northern Zone Fours Competition, with its ladies being crowned champions and the men’s team finishing runners-up after two closely contested finals.

Strong performances in freezing conditions

The tournament, hosted by Volksrust Bowling Club, attracted seven men’s teams and seven women’s teams. Although competitors faced bitterly cold weather, the greens were praised for playing exceptionally well throughout the competition.

After Saturday’s sectional rounds, Dundee’s ladies, skipped by Elsie de Jager, secured their place in the final after winning their section. The men’s team, skipped by Desmond Johnson, also topped its section to book a place in Sunday’s decider.

In the women’s final, de Jager and her team produced another polished performance, defeating Newcastle’s Alice and her team 19-11 to be crowned the 2026 Northern Zone Fours champions.

The men’s final proved to be a thriller. Dundee pushed Newcastle all the way before narrowly losing by a single shot, with John’s team claiming the 2026 Northern Zone Fours title.

Both Dundee teams earned praise for their excellent performances throughout the weekend, demonstrating consistency and determination against strong opposition.

Congratulations were extended to all the participating teams, while Volksrust Bowling Club was commended for its warm hospitality, excellent facilities and the successful organisation of the tournament.
