Highlanders third team claim fifth straight league title
Highlanders' third team beat their clubmates 48-27 to secure another third division title.
In the NRSU (Northern Rugby Sub Union) League third division finals, Boschpick Newcastle Highlanders’ third team were crowned winners for the fifth consecutive year, beating the Highlanders fourth team 48-27, leading 33-5 at half-time.
Moyane stars with record five tries
Moyane (15) scored five tries and was all over the place to finish or run good lines to score. Five is a record number of tries for a final.
Zander (13) and Zandré (7) showed they have a bright future in the club, as did Sfundu (14), who showed he had great pace.
In the fourth team, Douglas (8) and Aspen (5) played well, demonstrating once again that Highlanders youth have a great future in rugby ahead of them.
Janri (10) and some of the other senior players at the club showed that experience also counts.
Highlanders face Durban winners next
Newcastle Highlanders’ third team will now move on to play the winners of the Durban third division finals in Newcastle on August 15.
The winner of this game moves on to the next round to play the winning team in Zululand.
