Umzinyathi District Municipality has taken the first step towards hosting this year’s Prince Mangosuthu Ultra Marathon by holding an internal planning meeting ahead of the popular annual event.

The marathon is scheduled to take place on August 16, with runners travelling from Dundee to Nquthu.

Planning gains momentum

During the meeting, municipal officials discussed strategies to improve the overall experience for athletes, spectators and stakeholders. The session also focused on ensuring the event is well coordinated, with various sub-committees established to oversee key aspects of the marathon’s planning and implementation.

The meeting marks an important milestone in the build-up to the event and comes ahead of a stakeholder engagement session, which is scheduled to take place on Friday at the Nquthu Local Municipality offices.

In a statement, the municipality said it remains committed to delivering a well-organised, safe and successful Prince Mangosuthu Ultra Marathon that showcases the district while promoting sport, tourism and community development.

The annual marathon is expected to attract athletes and visitors from across the province, providing an economic boost to local businesses and highlighting the district’s commitment to hosting quality sporting events.
