Helpmekaar police seek help identifying decomposed body

Police are appealing for information to help identify a man whose decomposed body was found along the R33 near Helpmekaar.

Helpmekaar police are appealing to the community for help in identifying a man whose decomposed body was found in a bushy area along the R33 between Helpmekaar and Pomeroy.

The body was discovered last week by community members who had entered the area to collect firewood.

According to SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Siyabonga Nkwanyana, the body was already in an advanced state of decomposition when it was found, making identification difficult.

The man is believed to have been between 30 and 40 years old and approximately 1.6 metres tall. He was wearing a khaki T-shirt and black trousers.

Police appeal to public to come forward

Police are appealing to anyone who has reported a family member missing and believes they may match the description to come forward.

“Anyone with information that could assist police in identifying the deceased or locating his relatives is urged to come forward,” said Nkwanyana.

Anyone with information can contact Detective Sergeant Bhekumusa Seme on 076 962 5955 or Helpmekaar Police Station on 034 326 7335
