Young wrestlers battled it out on the mat when Renosters Wrestling Club hosted the KZN Wrestling Championships in Glencoe, with seven-year-old Emile Mortassagne stealing the show.

The championships attracted about 100 entries from five wrestling clubs across KwaZulu-Natal – Richards Bay, Volksrust, Vryheid, Newcastle Cougars and the Renosters.

Boys and girls as young as five competed, with the Renosters fielding the largest contingent of 30 wrestlers.

The local club also took home the highest number of medals, with its wrestlers collecting 30 medals.

Local wrestlers Ayada Dlamini, Simron Kallie, Tion Brown and Spe Sithole all performed well, but it was seven-year-old Emile who caught the eye with his prowess on the mat.

Wrestling with real passion and willpower, Emile never took a step back in his demanding division.

He showed tremendous determination throughout his bouts and looks to be a talent to watch in the future.

His impressive performance earned him the coveted Wrestler of the Day title.
