More than 650 participants took part in the 20th annual Michaelis Challenge powered by Meatmasters, bringing athletes, families and members of the Vryheid community together for a day of sport and outdoor activities.

Powered by Meatmasters, this challenge has become an annual event that draws many people, both in and out of Vryheid.

From triathlon to Michaelis Challenge

The challenge started in 2006 as a triathlon before later taking on its current format as the Michaelis Challenge.

Although the morning started with misty conditions, the weather later made way for a warm day, adding to the challenge faced by participants tackling the longer routes.

Routes test participants’ endurance

The routes included uphill and downhill sections, testing the endurance of those taking part.

The 5km event provided an opportunity to run, walk or cycle together, while the children’s corner kept the younger visitors entertained as teachers served fresh food to the participants and spectators.

Organisers thank supporters

The Michaelis family expressed its appreciation to everyone who contributed to the success of the event, including participants, sponsors and waterpoint teams.

The Michaelis family and organisers of the event sent out a special thank you to Meatmasters for its support as the event’s main sponsor.
