The 28th Annual Evotel Memel to Newcastle Walk/Run took place yesterday (Thursday, September 24), sporting over 250 participants.

What originally started with only 12 schoolboys and three teachers has grown into an Ultra Marathon and, in 2026, become a Comrades Qualifier.

Mens devision:

Congratulations to Motaung ‘Johannes’ Paseka, who was the first to cross the finishing line in a time of 04:06:15, followed by Sakhile Nkosi in 04:23:33 and Aubrey Ngwenya in 04:31:57.

Women division:

In the ladies’ division, Annelie Hiscook scooped first place with a time of 05:55:54, followed by Jo Claassen in 05:55:54 and Yolandi Appel in 06:04:48.

Team division

The Pace Setters were the first team to cross the finish line in 05:00:08, followed by Chafing the Dream in 05:04:10 and Run like the Wind (ed) in 05:26:56.

Johan Pieters of the Champ Group said he was highly satisfied with this year’s turnout and was already planning the 2027 event with new elements and fresh ideas.

“We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all of our sponsors and partners for their invaluable support, which ensured a successful day,” he said.
