Head boy becomes RCL president

We are so proud of Siphesihle Mkhize, who was elected the Zululand District RCL president and, later on, the KZN Provincial RCL president

As part of the Department of Education’s crime awareness initiative, Landbou learners were addressed by members of Vryheid’s Correctional Services, members of Vryheid’s SAPS, a social worker and former drug addicts about the dangers of drugs. This was a poignant reminder that ‘the people we associate work with will determine our future’.

Landbou had a very successful sports programme this term. Thank you to everyone involved; especially the players and the coaches. We appreciate all the blood, sweat and tears you put into your sport.

We are very proud of Richard Gyamfi, who was selected for the KZN Country District Rugby Team. This is a huge achievement! The school looks forward to watching you go from strength to strength.

The open day went amazingly, with many potential students and their parents getting to see all the school offers. There was a fantastic atmosphere and everyone seemed to enjoy the day. The pile of application forms received on the day certainly made it all worthwhile!

The school held a Speech & Drama Festival over two days, with learners working hard to impress. They sang, acted and performed their hearts out, which made the school proud. Congratulations to all who took part!

We eagerly await the school’s Candlelight Theatre, which will take place on August 31. This is always a beautiful event and worth supporting.

One of our education assistants, Nomfundo, is currently not well. We send blessings to her and her family for a speedy recovery.

The staff have received stunning golf shirts and jackets; thank you so much to Miss Vorster for organising these so we can wear our pride.

Congratulations to Mrs Cronk and Miss Stuart for receiving the trophy for the highest 2022 NSC English Home Language percentage in the Bhekuzulu Circuit.

We are so proud of Siphesihle Mkhize, who was elected the Zululand District RCL president and, later on, the KZN Provincial RCL president. This is indeed a tremendous honour for Siphesihle and the school.

The school’s previous headmistress, Mrs Annatjie van Niekerk, has passed away after a long illness. Mrs van Niekerk was acting head from mid-2010 until 2013 and headmistress from 2013 until 2020. She was an outstanding woman and a true role model. The school sends our condolences to her loved ones. She will be truly missed by all who had the privilege of meeting her. A celebration of her life will be held at the school on June 23.

With a heavy heart, the school bids farewell to Mrs Marlene van der Schyff. She is retiring after 34 years at the school. She brought such love and compassion to the school, and leaves behind a gaping hole. Mrs van der Schyff, you will always be part of the Landbou family; thank you for all the tall trees you helped grow through your love and care.
