St Dominics Newcastle’s Ciana Captan explains what Mandela Day means to her
With Today (July 18), being #MandelaDay, those taking part in the SPAR KZN schoolgirls’ hockey grand finals on July 22 and 23 were asked what Mandela means to them.
Ciana Captan of St. Dominics and captain of the Newcastle first X1 hockey team, who will be leading her team onto the astro for the first time at the grand finals, said:
Nelson Mandela was a great leader, and one of the things I admire about him is his leadership skills: he had patience, strength of character, focus, passion, understanding, perseverance, and forgiveness. All of these leadership qualities are so essential to being a leader, regardless of what it may be for.”
Asked what she like the most about hockey, Ciana said:
“The thing I like most about hockey is that I get to meet new people and build friendships with them. The best friendships I have made have come from people I have met on the hockey field because the sport brings so much happiness and togetherness.”
