On Friday, Vryheid High School (VHS) welcomed schools from diverse regions to its Choir Festival, showcasing exceptional vocal talent and spiritual devotion. The event drew participation from VHS, Inkamana High School, eShowe High School, Newcastle High School, Dundee High School and Sarel Cilliers High School.

Some standout performances caught everyone’s attention; Inkamana High School’s rendition of ‘Hamba uyosebenza’ impressed the audience. This song promotes a strong work ethic among the youth. Then there was eShowe High School’s powerful performance of ‘Eloyi lemasabakathani’, inspired by Jesus’ words. Vryheid High School’s uplifting performance of ‘Akekho fana nawe’ praised God’s uniqueness. Dundee High School emerged as the overall winners of the day, demonstrating exceptional musicality and teamwork. Thank you to all the participating schools and conductors, programme directors and Vryheid High School Choir conductor Sandakahle Shabangu.

Their collective efforts made this event a success, celebrating music, faith and community.
In other news, the VHS boys’ soccer team faced off against Ferrum in a thrilling fixture that kept the spectators on the edge of their seats. Both sides displayed impressive ball control, teamwork and determination. Although Ferrum proved to be tough opposition, the VHS boys held their ground, demonstrating the growth and promise of the squad as they continue to prepare for the rest of the season.

Alongside the soccer, Ferrum also hosted a 7s rugby tournament, where Vryheid High’s teams competed in the U/15 and U/17 divisions. The matches were fast-paced and intense, filled with quick breaks, strong tackles and plenty of school spirit. The U/15 boys showed grit and determination in their fixtures, while the U/17s proved they are a force to be reckoned with, representing Vryheid with pride.

The weekend was not only about sport, however. Excitement is building for the school’s upcoming Talent Show, which will be held this coming weekend. Learners are preparing to showcase their diverse abilities, ranging from singing and dancing to drama, comedy and other hidden talents. The event promises to be a celebration of creativity and school spirit, offering families and friends an entertaining evening.

With strong performances in sport and a much-anticipated cultural highlight on the horizon, VHS continues to show it is a place where both talent and teamwork thrive.
