Drakensview Primary hosts inter-house athletics meeting

Best wishes to the Drakensview team for the TDA inter-school athletics.

Drakensview Primary School hosted its annual inter-house athletics meeting on Thursday, August 6, with learners displaying impressive determination, sportsmanship and school spirit throughout the day.

The school’s four houses – Duiker, Eland, Kudu and Impala – battled it out across a variety of track and field events in the quest to be crowned the top house for 2026. Learners from U/10 to U/13 competed for house honours, while the open division boys and girls competed against one another for the top positions in their respective age groups.

A day of competitive athletics

The programme featured a range of exciting events, including the 80m, 100m, 150m, 200m, 800m, 1200m and 1500m races, as well as shot put and long jump. The athletes gave their best on the day, making for an exciting and highly competitive meeting.

When the final points were tallied, Kudu House emerged victorious, claiming the prestigious Odendaal Shield with 206 points. Duiker finished in second place with 139 points, followed by Eland on 125 points and Impala on 122 points.

Kudu House also secured the Forder Cup for Best House Relay Team, adding another achievement to an outstanding day for the house.

Celebrating individual champions

The meeting also saw several learners recognised for their outstanding individual performances.

  • Junior boys Victor Ludorum: Thabiso Mapharisa
  • Junior girls Victrix Ludorum: Lulonke Sithole and Anne-Lee Boshoff
  • Jackson Cup senior boys Victor Ludorum: Lifa Sithole
  • Du Plessis Cup senior girls Victrix Ludorum: Melokuhle Magubane
  • Open boys champion: Thandwa Khumalo
  • Open girls champion: Melokuhle Shabalala

The school congratulates all the award recipients on their excellent achievements, and commends every learner who participated for their commitment and valiant efforts.

Road to the TDA inter-school athletics meeting

The inter-house athletics meeting also served as an important qualifier for selection to the Drakensview Primary School team that will compete at the TDA inter-school athletics meeting in Bergville on Thursday (August 20).

Leading the school team as captains will be:

  • Boys’ captain: Lifa Sithole
  • Girls’ captain: Melokuhle Magubane

Drakensview Primary wishes all its selected athletes the very best as they prepare to represent the school at the TDA athletics meeting. The school is proud of their hard work, determination and sporting spirit.
