Newcastle residents embraced wellness and unity when International Yoga Day was marked at Grey Goose Lodge.
Under the theme ‘Start your day with peace, positivity and purpose’, the event brought people together to reflect on yoga’s global message of inner peace and collective harmony.
Enthusiasts of all levels and ages were guided through gentle stretches, breathing, and energising flows, making for a peaceful and empowering start to the day.
Friends, families, and others arrived with yoga mats and open hearts, to join a shared space of peace and positivity.
The event fostered not only physical well-being but also mental clarity and emotional stability – the pillars of yoga.
What is International Yoga Day?
International Yoga Day is observed annually on June 21, aligning with the summer solstice – the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere.
It was first proposed by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and officially adopted by the United Nations in 2014 to raise global awareness of yoga’s many benefits.
Originating in India more than 5,000 years ago, yoga is a holistic discipline that connects the mind, body, and spirit. It goes beyond physical exercise, promoting flexibility, strength, and posture while reducing stress and fostering inner peace.
Today, International Yoga Day is celebrated worldwide with community events, group classes, and messages promoting wellness, unity, and balance.
