Six ways to enjoy a home-based holiday
Simple and relaxing ideas to make your staycation feel special, from picnics, home spa moments, yoga, reading and creating your own retreat.
Driving or flying for hours on end seems tedious to most people. Double that with a restricted budget and you are almost out of options.
A Staycation is the perfect at-home holiday adventure tailored to your needs.
Here are six ways to enjoy the holidays without travelling far:
1. Take a bubble- or candlelight bath
Create a romantic, calming atmosphere by soaking in a bubble bath with lit candles for ambiance. Sprinkle dried rose petals for extra scent. This will create the same effect as at an expensive hotel.
2. Have a picnic
If you are lucky enough to have a big property, or at least a decent patch of grass, it would be a good idea to lay a big blanket or duvet on it. Simple snacks and fruit juice will ensure a fruity-fresh lunch. Or, you can spruce it up by lighting a fire for a braai with biltong and a green salad.
3. Have one of your family members be your masseuse
A massage is as good as a holiday itself. Instead of paying lots of money to go to a massage parlour, use your family members instead. Depending on how many you are, each can be assigned a “client”. After the one is finished, the other one can do the massage work.
4. Do yoga, stretching, or meditation
If massages have not yet relaxed you, doing yoga, stretching, or meditation will most definitely. It helps regulate breathing, muscle tension and back pain.
5. Create a special place
Everybody needs a space that is theirs only. Create a space in the garden with a small bench, a corner in your bedroom with a comfortable chair, or calling dibs in the living room on the sofa with the best view of the television.
6. Read a great book
This is something you can do, together with the other five ways to spend a memorable and practical Staycation. Reading a good book is never a waste and can be inspirational even to the laziest reader.
Happy staycationing!
