Wacky Wednesday book reminds readers to enjoy life’s surprises

If you're feeling upside-down, here's a book that might just set you back on your feet again.

Have you ever woken up one morning, feeling that everything is out of place and that today is going to be yet another Wacky Wednesday?

Famous author Dr Seuss wrote a book about a boy waking up one morning in a world that is quite literally upside-down.

Wacky Wednesday

Illustrated by George Booth, Wacky Wednesday follows a nameless boy on his morning routine as he discovers that everything gets wackier by the minute. It starts with a shoe against the wall and evolves into absurd situations such as:

  • Shoes against the ceiling;
  • Bananas growing on apple trees;
  • A tortoise in a tree and a pig with chicken legs; and
  • A teacher on roller blades!

The book ends with the boy meeting patrolman McGann, who assures the boy that everything will be right-side-up again once he identifies 20 mistakes on the last page.

A children's book with illustrations about a boy kneeling on his bed, looking at a shoe stuck to the ceiling in his bedroom. There is a yellow cat in the forefront, with a white wall and a window in the background.

Value

Although this book is aimed at children between the ages of three and seven, there is a lesson all of us can learn.

Whenever things seem upside-down (you feel like a teacher on roller blades or a tortoise in a tree), remember:

Keep your eyes open to detail and you might just see that everything is wacky for a reason.

:) (:
