Bearing in mind that Friday was World Egg Day, the Ladysmith Gazette, together with Sharaj Ambulance Services, went to Ezakheni E-section on Wednesday afternoon to distribute egg hampers.
Under the supervision of Reverend Nkosi, the hampers were handed out at a house that serves as a créche for needy children. The hampers – which each contained an egg sandwich, Chelsea bun, fruit and juice – were put together by Naunton’s Guest House.
They were sponsored by the country’s egg industry who donate healthy food parcels to the less privileged on World Egg Day every year.
Scientific research over more than 20 years has clearly demonstrated the specific benefits of eggs during all stages of the life-span, from the foetus, through childhood, adolescence and into old age.
The little ones were overjoyed when they saw the friendly team approaching the créche and were so grateful to receive their nutritious treats. Whether their faces were full of egg or they had spilled juice on their clothes, all of them wore a smile that stretched from ear to ear. The children were given an informative and fun talk on the benefits of eating eggs and then eagerly answered questions about what they had been told.
When it was time to leave, the jubilant little ones sang, danced and waved goodbye until the vehicles were out of sight.
