Fun, food and furry pets a true delight

Madam – St Dominic’s was the venue for the annual SPCA Dog Show which was held on Saturday morning, 26 October.

A microcosm of the Newcastle community – dogs, children and adults enjoyed the morning’s activities. Fortunately the rain held off and the interest shown by everyone – one could just tell – was genuinely heartfelt. In between consuming wors rolls, pancakes, biryani and cooldrinks, there were various activities to watch and take part in.

These included races, amusing sausage-eating competitions and prizes for best-dog and owner/dog look-alike. There was an impressive array of breeds to admire – an endearing Husky puppy, Dalmations and a Rottweiler were just some of our ‘furry friends’ running around.

At one point, a little girl, when the lead slipped off her dog’s neck, desperately and dramatically clung to its tail! But generally, the dogs ‘stole the show’ and that’s probably the way it should be.

George Eliot ( 1819-1880) certainly had a point when she wrote :

” Animals are such agreeable friends – they ask no questions, they pass no criticism .”
