Editor – Re: GRI Khan the son, not grandson, of Essop Jundhu Khan.
Please allow me to respond to the ‘incorrect’ information I furnished in the November 1 edition of the Ladysmith Gazette in the ‘Down Windsor Lane’ column. Mr Dawood Mall Khan is right; Mr GRI Khan is indeed the son of the late Mr Essop Jundhu Khan and not the grandson, as I indicated in the said article. I telephoned Mr GRI Khan and apologised for any embarrassment my faux pas may have caused him.
However, Mr Dawood Mall Khan in particular and the readers in general should note that the ‘incorrect’ information I tendered was extracted verbatim from the Golden Jubilee Supplement that appeared on May 9, 1964. There is no documentary evidence that Mr Dawood Mall Khan corrected that ‘incorrect’ submission. I did not thumb-suck that bit of information.
I take great pride in the information I have supplied thus far and the responses received from as far afield as Canada and Australia are testimony to the content that takes readers, especially the older members, down memory lane. To produce such nostalgia demands immense research and a great deal of chatting – not necessarily in a supermarket. Differences of opinion and errors are bound to occur in the compilation of history of an institution as august as Windsor High. But a phone call or a chat to set the record straight, as has been done by a few concerned readers, is constructive criticism. I will always appreciate that rather than some sabre-rattling via the letters page.
