Madam – Mayor and Escort Vehicle Drive Across Red Robot.

On Saturday, the 30th of November, at approximately 11:45am, I had stopped at a red robot on the corner of Victoria/Hardwick and Allen Streets.

While waiting for the robot to turn green, I heard a siren and saw a silver SUV with flashing blue lights approaching me from the opposite direction, escorting a black SUV with the registration NN 1.

The SUV was supposed to have stopped at the red robot on the opposite side, but because there were vehicles in front who had already stopped at the red robot, both the SUV’s turned onto the right arrow marked lane for those vehicles turning right only, and they then proceeded to drive straight across the red robot.

Now this makes me question why our town’s first citizen would be exempt from obeying traffic rules. (We assume that the vehicle with registration NN 1 belongs to the Mayor of Newcastle or some official).

The driver of the escort vehicle, the silver SUV wore the uniform of a traffic official. Does this mean that our traffic officials have no regard for the safety of other road users, himself and the first citizen?

I wish to ask this traffic official if being in a position of authority on our roads, gives him the right to endanger the lives of innocent citizens? Or was he under any higher instruction? If so, I wish to pose the same question to the occupant of NN 1.

To endanger yourself and the first citizen is ultimately your choice, but when you endanger the lives of others you should not be afforded the privilege to drive on our roads.

If you think that I will allow your irresponsible behaviour which negatively affects my safety you are making a mistake.

Had someone not seen or heard you, an accident would have been imminent. This would have involved a whole lot of innocent people, who could have even lost their lives due to your disregard for the rules of our road.

Is this the kind of example that is set by people of authority? If so then I have got no hope for this country.
