What’s your definition of the perfect Valentine’s date?

Let us know in the comments what your idea of the perfect date would be.

With Valentine’s Day coming up tomorrow, couples and singles alike are thinking about how they’ll spend the day that’s dedicated to love. While some prefer grand romantic gestures, others believe that the simplest moments can be the most meaningful.

We asked members of the community: What’s your definition of the perfect Valentine’s Day date? Is it a fancy dinner, a weekend getaway, a quiet night at home, or something completely unexpected?

Here’s what they had to say:

Nicole Nel.

“A perfect Valentine’s date is having my best friend by my side after 23 years – that is the greatest gift, still holding hands, laughing together, and being grateful for a love that has grown stronger through every season.”

Melishia Mothilal.

“My perfect Valentine’s date is a private, candlelit evening in a cozy space. It’s intimate and intentional: shared creation in the kitchen, deep conversation over drinks, followed by dessert of course!”

Phiwo Ndaba.

“Is less about extravagant spending and more about personalization and creating a shared experience. The goal is to make your partner feel appreciated and valued and loved.”

Thresha Sewpersadh.

“A perfect Valentine’s date is simple – Effort, Attention, Feeling Chosen. It’s not about money – it’s about you planning something thoughtful, being off your phone, complimenting her genuinely, and making her feel special and safe. A flower, a sweet note, good conversation, and a warm hug at the end.”

Mary-Ann Blignaut.

“A picnic basket packed with delicious food, shared at a quiet spot beside a gently flowing river. No rush, no noise – just good conversation, laughter, and the calming sound of water in the background. It’s about connection, not extravagance.”

Lucy Ahir.

“A perfect Valentine’s date is all about connection, sweetness and love. Roses are the magic. No extravagance is needed. Just the feeling like the two of you are the only people in the world.”

Anne Mchunu.

“A perfect Valentine’s date could be a cozy dinner at a fancy restaurant, with the exchange of gifts. It’s about sharing love and making memories with someone I love.”

Thinus Reynecke.

“Valentine’s Day is really about spending quality time together. It’s not about gifts or fancy plans.
What matters most is being fully present with each other. Enjoying each other’s company and sharing the moment is key. It’s the simple, genuine moments that make it special.”
