I have learnt of some matters discussed at a recent meeting arranged by the Mayor and chaired by Breen Ally Buckus, from some members who attended the meeting.
I raise the following matters that received attention:
With respect to writing off water arrears, Mr Buckus mentioned a decision was taken to write this off.
He was prepared to do this in writing.
We kindly ask him to do this and send letters to all householders or state this in the Estcourt News. What follow-up was taken by the Mayor with respect to other matters raised; namely problems in Colita, burst water pipes and the role of Uthukela and the never-ending problem of POTHOLES.
It is hoped that the powers that be are not doing this as a roadshow in preparation for the forthcoming elections.
Such consultation with the community would have taken place early, when officials took up their new positions.
What about a “Suggestion Column” in the Estcourt News? We want officials to be guided by the following: We want a man of his words and not a man of words. Do the right things and not merely doing things right.
