Whilst the Uthukela District Municipality (UDM) water saga has had a torturous journey, the final resolution still leaves a bitter taste in the mouth.
We cannot deny however, that the ANC, particularly Tim Jeebodh (except for one ANC detractor) have honoured their word to close this chapter.
Once the accounts are cleared of the arrears, there cannot be an excuse not to pay the water account.
The UDM should have a process where accounts are cleared at the local office if people came in with their accounts.
The quicker the write off, the better and we can all help UDM to become a sterling beacon because we need municipalities to start working.
If only politicians can realise that our country has the potential to be the hub of economic, skill and social development.
I wish there was a way to convince them to employ skilled people who have a feeling of personal attachment to their work where they can make a difference – anyone can be an employee but very few can treat public office as a vocation of calling.
This would also help to regularise this issue quicker.
Perhaps your paper should have a monthly SMS process where people could vote for the best public servant of the month as encouragement to dedicated persons.
