Are motorcycles there to be hit?

I don't want to be nearly knocked off my motorcycle just because vehicle drivers are too careless or irresponsible to look before changing lanes or entering a crossing

Editor – I think it’s time for me to ask your readers what they think of motorcycles on our town’s roads.

I ride my motorcycle to work every day, like so many motor vehicle drivers. I am legally registered and licensed, like many motor vehicle drivers, and my motorcycle is roadworthy, like many other motor vehicles.

I wear a bright-yellow reflective jacket over my motorcycle clothing and my motorcycle’s headlights are always on. Yet, other motor vehicle drivers choose to ignore all of this and nearly knock us of our chosen mode of transport.

Is it deliberate? Do they view motorcyclists as less than legal on the road? Do they know how to look before entering a crossing? What else do we need to do to be seen by motor vehicle drivers? Do we have to ride around naked to be seen?

The motorcycle is just another mode of transport. It does not hold back traffic and very few motorcyclists drive like lunatics. Please look out for us on the roads. Be vigilant. Be careful.

I don’t want to be nearly knocked off my motorcycle just because vehicle drivers are too careless or irresponsible to look before changing lanes or entering a crossing. Please let us live as well.
