The average household has two children and two parents. Most of the time, only one parent brings in enough to support the family. This isn’t even taking into consideration the millions of people who live hand to mouth, child-run households, single parent homes and those who live in poverty.
While we all want to believe in the Rainbow Nation concept so virtuously thrown into our faces come election time, we can’t help wondering: Where is our pot of gold?
Those in power will spend millions on a ‘fire pool’ or some other such nonsense, while across the road there are hundreds of people who don’t even get one meal a day. And yet we still believe in these people, we still break our backs to contribute to society and we still try valiantly to keep our heads above water each day.
It’s easy to become disillusioned. It’s this kind of gluttonous greed and contempt for the ‘little people’ that sow the seeds of animosity and make people keep coming back to the ‘race card’.
It’s the state of utter ‘I don’t care as long as you give me something in return’ attitude that allows hatred to fuel this country.
And with the fuel of anger winding it’s way into the veins of our current and new generation, how is anyone supposed to survive?
