Editor – I received this letter (attached) in my gate this afternoon as I arrived home.
The frustration I have with regards to this letter is: The letter is incorrect in saying that “no person should refuse admittance or any reasonable information…”
My first question is: Was the person refused if our gates are locked for obvious reasons, during the day?
Secondly, if they cannot get into my property in the first place, how on earth are they going to put in a prepaid meter?
Where are the records that they have actually been to the house to attempt to read the meter, except for this incompetent letter?
On the letter, there is no time stated that the ‘official’ was actually at the house to attempt to read the meter.
What does the municipality think?
That we are waiting around all day for them to come read the meter at random dates of the month and random times of the day?
Well, my message to the municipality is that some of us actually work for a living. We cannot afford to stay at home in these dire economic times – all members of the household work.
My property is not totally inaccessible – the fence is so low that anyone could climb over it.
My next complaint is that I tried calling the number at the top of the letterhead this morning to speak to the undersigned, Mr C Geldenhuys, only to find that the person who “signed” the letter no longer works there?
I call back to speak to Mr SP Nkosi (as per the email address) and I get cut off three times because it looks as if no one knows what’s going on there.
I called the cell-phone number at the bottom of the page and it was just as much of a senseless operation.
Why can’t the municipality get it together and understand that people all work during the day, and make arrangements to do sections at a certain time?
For example, Van Riebeeck Park will be done on such and such a day, Hyde Park on such and such a day, etc, and put out a public notice.
Would that be too much to ask? I will not get a prepaid meter or have one forcefully installed!
