Editor – Re: Water Woes. As a concerned resident and ratepayer, I think it is time that the ‘powers that be’ come clean about the truth behind the sudden “water-shedding”.
The Klip River has been dry for many months and our last decent rain was on February 27 this year. Even that was not enough to raise the level in the river.
Now, seven months later, we are suddenly told that our water will be cut because the pumps from Spioenkop are not strong enough to pump sufficient water.
Why does it take this long for such a revelation to be made when, up until now, there was no break in continuous water supply?
To add to this mystery is the fact that on one hand, we are told that the pumps are not strong enough to cope with the demand, and on the other hand, we are told that the pumps will only be on between 4.30pm and 8.30pm.
If the pumps cannot pump enough, then why are they switched off for 20 hours a day?
Would someone please tell us the real reason for the water shortage when Spioenkop Dam is 66% full.
