It’s not about racism, it’s a game plan

Dear Commissioner Trollip

Response to letter ‘South African sport is threatened by racism’ published on November 6.

Let me start by asking you to enlighten us, the public, as to what a ‘Commissioner Pastor’ is, as I have never heard the term.

In response to your letter published in last week’s paper about racism in sport, I have a few questions and opinions about your article.

Let’s start with Victor Matfield, yes he is one of the best this world has seen but he was returning from injury, so it was clearly a gamble to start with him, and do you recall the penalty that was overturned as a result of Victor Matfield?

Well within range of Pollard and at the time we could’ve taken the lead if successful.

Then, I think everyone in this country agrees that our wings should see more of the ball, a game plan of Heineke that doesn’t allow for this, so no matter what the colour of your skin of the wings and fullback and most often the centres too, they will never receive the ball because of the game plan and not of the player’s colour.

Then, as for Rudy Paige, he barely made the starting team for his province and now you cry foul that he was excluded?

He should thank you for his selection in the 31 man squad, because it was clearly one of race and not performance.

So, for every game, of the 31 players, only 23 make the team list, so what about the other players who receive hardly any game time?

Bryan Habana was on the verge of world cup history, yes, but which game did you watch?

As the game I watched, Bryan could not catch a single ball, so in my eyes, he was substituted 20 minutes too late.
Then, we won’t even talk about Bafana Bafana as they are a headache for another day.
So, Ray Trollip, I’m not sure if you are short of work or attention at the municipality, but please try and use a bit of logic before you write to the paper again.
