Madam – Albert Schweitzer said “In everyone’s life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.”
Over the past year the SPCA’s inner spirit has most definitely been rekindled by the initiative of certain people and the generosity of the community.
Most importantly, people are starting to understand and accept their responsibility as pet owners, thus allowing the SPCA to concentrate on our work which is dealing with animal cruelty.
The Management Committee and our animals say a very big ‘THANK YOU’ to you all. As we are fast approaching the season of fireworks and festivities, please take the following into consideration:
If you own animals, please ensure they have the best of care. If you are going away and wish to use a boarding facility, ensure you make a booking well in advance. It is advisable that your pet has a collar with an identification tag to ensure its return should it escape your property.
We ask members of the public not to be afraid to report anything of concern. This might range from people aiming at living creatures with fireworks, air guns or similar items, to accidents involving animals or broken down vehicles carrying animals.
Above all, please report concerns regarding abused, neglected or cruelly treated animals by phone. Every SPCA has an all-hours emergency number but e-mails may not be monitored around the clock and the same applies to messages of this kind on Facebook.
Please ensure you have our telephone no, which is 034 318 2346, saved on your cellphone, and remember the identity of an informant is always kept confidential.
Compassion comes in all forms and we ask for consideration towards all creatures and the promotion of responsible behaviour.
Have a Blessed Christmas and a animal cruelty free New Year.
From the Newcastle SPCA Committee
