Fireworks must be banned

These 'mini-bombs' are terrifying and as we saw last week causes emotional and physical damage

I refer to last week’s front page and page 3 article about fireworks. In my opinion, I agree with the residents quoted, fireworks with loud bangs MUST be banned.

These ‘mini-bombs’ are terrifying and as we saw last week causes emotional and physical damage. And while fireworks are beautiful to look at, the fact is that they can also be extremely dangerous and inconsiderate people can cause havoc at the expense of others. I know that most people will argue that Diwali can’t be celebrated without fireworks but I have spoken to many people who agree that Diwali is NOT about the loud bangs but rather the row of lights that adorn the homes.

Why do we still even allow fireworks to be associated with this festival? What annoys me most is that some people still continue letting off fireworks days after Diwali.

Surely there must be some rule against this? I hope that this does not happen on New Year’s Eve.
