It would perhaps be appropriate to remind some people of the usefulness of trucks; They bring everything to us. Everything you eat, drink, sit on, sleep on, drive in and whatever, was at one stage in its life carried by a truck. Without them we would not have fresh veggies or eggs, no petrol for the car and no beer for yourself.
We should, for that reason alone, be more forgiving for the dust and noise they cause – it’s a small price to pay. And what about their drivers?
They spend long hours (very long) behind the wheel, away from their families for many days, even weeks, lonely and stressed by deadlines, hungry perhaps, and with no place to freshen up. And they are doing it for us.
It would, in my opinion, be only fair and reasonable to give them a chance to do some shopping too. As for my part I will only say, ‘Thank you Trucker’.
M. J.
P.S. In an ideal world a proper truck-stop would be ‘just the thing’ for Newcastle.
