Hospice Mission Statement
‘The Estcourt Hospice Association provides and promotes home based care and bereavement support to patients with a life threatening illness, their families and others, through direct patient care, liaison with strategic partners, training, mentorship and supervision.’
The seven ladies who currently work for Hospice provide a free service to 126 patients in and around Umtshezi.
As stated in the Mission Statement all hospices offer palliative care to patients, support to patients and family members, monitoring of medication of those suffering from HIV, cancer and other life limiting illnesses.
All hospice care is offered free of charge to patients and their families, but there is never anything “free”. There are many direct costs to Hospice. There is no government funding to hospices, which depend entirely on the community they serve and to whatever donations can be raised either within the community or from the writing of proposals to various organisations and businesses.
The Hospice Charity Shop, which is run by volunteers, is located within the Methodist Church grounds next to Mackson’s Hyperzone, is one of the initiatives to generate income.
We appeal to all people who have “stuff” cluttering up cupboards, store rooms and garages, to donate it to the Hospice Charity Shop. Any redundant articles of clothing, furniture, unwanted toys, tools, kitchenware and books are welcome.
The Hospice Shop is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 2pm. Hospice House (Office), at 46 Beechwood Road is open Monday and Thursday 8.30am to 4pm, and Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 8.30am to 1.30pm. The office is closed on a Friday and Public Holidays.
Alternately, you can call Bruce Crathorne on 071 8814 183, Rena Licen 082 5577 374, or LeRoy Gericke 073 5829 400 who will arrange for items to be picked up.
