Our town is deteriorating badly

Recently I visited the town and was shocked at how closely it resembled a ghost town

In response to the letter in last week’s newspaper ‘Do we have a functional municipality?’

I have to agree with the complainant. I have relocated from the once beautiful town of Estcourt where I grew up, got married and raised a family.

Recently I visited the town and was shocked at how closely it resembled a ghost town.

I brought visitors from Gauteng to Estcourt and on taking them through Forderville (Bangladesh) for a tour of where I grew up; I was appalled at the sight of the once thriving district.

The roads, if that’s what one can call them, are horrific and pose a danger to drivers.

The town has been allowed to deteriorate so badly, it’s a wonder our youth choose to leave.

It’s a place I always wanted to return to and retire at but that will not be happening.

I now visit Estcourt only if the need arises. Please can somebody do something to restore this cosy, beautiful place people call home.
