Stop selling rubbish to schoolchildren

I am writing this letter to alert parents to urge their children not to buy these fancy drinks, as they do more harm than good

Editor – As a parent, I am concerned about the products that are sold in tuck shops or by vendors that operate at schools and out of the school boundary.

Although some schools have stringent rules about the items sold, there may be a few that do not monitor what the lessee or the vendor sells.

Recently, I was in a pharmacy waiting in line for my turn. A lady and a little boy were at the counter being seen to.
I was horrified when I overheard the reason for their visit. The child had purchased a so-called energy drink that affected him. After consuming the liquid, he fainted. The school rendered the necessary arrangements and the child was sent for medical care.

Do these vendors not realise that energy drinks are not meant for children and should be avoided at all costs? As desperate as times may be, one should not think of putting the lives of our future generation at risk merely for the sake of greed.

I am writing this letter to alert parents to urge their children not to buy these fancy drinks, as they do more harm than good.

I also feel it is the responsibility of the Department of Education and the school to protect our children, especially when they are in school. Thereafter, their responsibility ceases.
