You don’t have the right to deface books
"If you do not enjoy how the author writes, which is the way some people speak, then do not read her books!"

Madam – We enjoy reading and are therefore members of the library.
We have noticed that there is a self-appointed censor in Newcastle, who has written the following two messages in one of Catherine Cookson’s books, The fifteen streets.
The first message reads “Please!! Do not use the Lord’s name so disgracefull(sic)!!!” The second message has an arrow pointing to the author’s note and the words, “you are a disgrace! Using the good lord’s name as if you own it!!”
As you read the book this person has used a pen to scratch out the words relating to God or Lord. This is not the only book that this self-appointed censor has defaced. In another book by the same author, a tippex pen was used and all these words were tippexed out.
I do not agree with blasphemy but this does not give anyone the right to deface library books in this manner. If you do not enjoy how the author writes, which is the way some people speak, then do not read her books! Simple as that!
