LETTER: My life was saved at Madadeni Hospital

Keep up the good work, and may the Almighty God bless you always.

Madam – Thank you, Madadeni Hospital, for saving my life.

I would like to thank all the staff at Madadeni casualty OPD, under the supervision of Operational Manager in nursing, Nonhlanhla Shabalala, who attended to me on the 24th of January in the morning from 7am till 3pm.

I was brought in by car, next to casualty, by my daughter who was driving as I was very ill and helpless. General Orderly Nomathemba Mbatha fetched the wheelchair and assisted my daughter to wheel me into casualty. Buyi Nkosi also ensured that I got the OPD card, as I could not go to the clerks.

I nearly lost my life, but Dr Mbatha saved my life, who tried his best to investigate and managed me accordingly. He patiently listened to me that I could not take oral treatment due to vomiting by putting up an intravenous line and treatment via intravenous line.

He ensured that blood tests were done and constantly monitored me until my condition was stable and I was fit to go home.

I will never forget staff nurse Mbatha who was next to me, trying to get history from me. She was so patient as I was taking time to respond to questions.

Thank you to the student nurses who were also allocated on that day; they ensured that I was comfortable. I am grateful to all the nurses and doctors who are working hard every day and night in spite of criticism and shortage, and at times faced with difficult situations but keep on doing their level best to save a human life.

Keep up the good work, and may the Almighty God bless you always.

Mrs G. Shange
