Sir
Regarding the recent article in the Courier on the implementation of the by-laws.
These are not being taken seriously. I have had this morning (Sunday), since after 7am, the tenants from 43c Oldacre Street playing very loud music the entire morning.
I have called the number in the paper that was given with the by-laws article and called the police and nobody came out. In fact, Warrant Officer Masondo made a very funny comment. He blatantly told me that they (the tenants) can make noise. Now how can noise be made at that level?
I am sick and tired of having to live like a prisoner in my own house. Today, I had to actually leave my residence and go somewhere where it is quiet.
Why must I leave my property to have peace because inconsiderate tenants think they can do whatever they want? Did the municipality put the article in the Courier to make us think that something is going to eventually happen? Well, let me tell you one thing: according to the police, you can do whatever you want. Imagine if we all had the same mentality and attitude that these tenants have, then we might as well not have rules and regulations? What is this town coming to? Is it going to be like an entire squatter camp? Ratepayers are NOT happy that we have to live like this.
The municipality needs to be harsher with the landlords and impose heavy fines and by heavy, starting with nothing less than R2 000 per complaint, which would need proof of course. I used to be proud of my town.
There is absolutely no peace and no respect for the other person. There is a church right next to the house in Oldacre Street and a B & B. What must these tourists think of our town? We are constantly fed-up with the noise coming from 11b Beaconsfield and 43c Oldacre Streets. Constant loud music coming from both houses and still the drug dealings that are being carried out in Beaconsfield Street at a nearby tuck shop. Something needs to be done fast as the law will be taken into our own hands as this cannot continue.
Enough is enough
Our Department of Safety and Security is dealing with these issues. Our by-laws have been approved by the Magistrate and will be implemented after a meeting with the SAPS which will happen shortly.
Desi Padaychee – Acting Municipal Manager.
