The letter entitled ‘Uthukela where are you?’ (Estcourt News, page 6, March 10) refers:
READ LETTER HERE: Uthukela District Municipalit where are you
1. The Uthukela sewer mains runs from Victoria Street along the rear boundary of Tall Tree Garage and then runs along the mid-block boundary between Victoria and Albert streets up to the rear boundary of the B&B at 95 Albert Street; the sewer line then runs through the B&B property until it reaches the lower boundary of the B&B in Albert Street.
The sewer lines from the various properties in Connor, Victoria and Albert streets all flow into the Uthukela District Municipality sewer line (as described above); these sewer lines from the businesses and private owners are all the responsibility of the businesses and private owners and they are therefore responsible for clearing any sewer blockages. We are only responsible for the sewer mains, which is running in the mid-block.
2.. The sewer leak in Barfield Road is not in Barfield Road but is at the bottom of the 123 steps leading down from Victoria Street (not sure if there are 123 steps as I don’t know anyone who has ever counted them).
We did respond to the report and found a manhole that had been buried and the sewer blockage was cleared as soon as the manhole was uncovered (before we received this e-mail). Furthermore, this section of sewer line collects effluent from the two properties on either side of Victoria Street at the top of the steps; there is no connection between this sewer line and the one referred to in the point above.
3. The water leak on the boundary between Shoprite and the post office has been repaired. This was an internal leak and was therefore the responsibility of Shoprite and not us. This was also repaired before we received the e-mail.
We value the constant reports of water and sewer leaks that we receive from Angela Keyter, however we wish to advise that we might not always be able to respond immediately due to limited resources and priority of repairing major burst pipes versus leaking pipes
Thanks for your patience.
