Dead kitten dumped in front garden

The kitten was limp and very, very dead - rigor mortis had not yet set in, so death was very recent

Editor – Someone dumped a dying, presumed poisoned kitten into our front garden on Friday afternoon.

I was out for two hours and when I came back, I switched off the front beams to allow the dogs into the front garden, as I always do when I’m bringing in the groceries.

I looked out into the front garden as I was unpacking and saw what looked like a fluffy child’s toy on the grass outside the garage window.

Our spaniel went to investigate.

It reached out and drew back from what was revealed to be a tiny, beige and white kitten.

The dog eventually picked it up, just holding it without biting, and let me take it.

The kitten was limp and very, very dead. Rigor mortis had not yet set in, so death was very recent.

There was blood inside the kitten’s mouth and inside one ear, but NO signs at all of external injury.

So it appears to have been poisoned with rat poison. (Typical symptoms of anti-coagulant poisoning are bleeding from the mouth and ears)

Who would do such a thing and throw it over the fence? To poison our dogs? Dogs don’t eat poisoned animals. So who did this? And why?

I would like the person or persons who did this to do the brave and right thing and present themselves to me at my house at 16 St Augustine Avenue, Egerton, Ladysmith.
