Editor – I am writing this letter to try and get answers as to what is happening to the quality of roads in Ladysmith, especially Centenary Road which runs through the former Indian area.
I have lived in Ladysmith my entire life and day-by-day the roads in this town seem to be getting worse, with no end in sight as far as repairs are concerned.
I know that repairs are currently being conducted in Centenary Road, yet these repairs have been going on for almost a year.
The question I ask is: Why does it take so long? Is the road quality so bad that it cannot be fixed, or the people doing the job just can’t do it?
I travel that road every single day to and from work, and see that progress is very slow. It looks like it will be another year’s wait for the road to be fixed.
At every bad patch and intersection in Centenary Road, there seems to be a person conducting traffic flow. This is only done during the day and nothing at night. They conduct traffic, yet they do it so badly that it looks like they are just standing there to show people that some work is being done.
I fill up with petrol at the service station and get bread daily, but these days I have to find other ways to get that done, as I cannot even drive to those shops.
Many people in town ask the burning question: When will the road be fixed? I hope it will be completed soon, as the gravel road is taking its toll on my vehicle and my tyres.
