The recent publication and damning findings of the South African Council of Churches Unburdening report and the Betrayal of the Promise:
How South Africa is Being Stolen report by various academics and the recent publication of emails that further collaborate and add to these findings, clearly indicate that we face a crisis of such magnitude never before seen in post-democratic South Africa.
In fact, our Constitutional order and current and future well-being as a nation appear to be threatened by the actions the President of the Republic and other members of the National Executive, apart from the failure of Parliament to hold the Executive accountable.
There has been widespread concern and condemnation expressed in this matter by all sectors of society. There is palpable public anger.
This festering boil of greed, deceit, betrayal and treasonous behaviour must be lanced.
The ugly truth must be exposed once and for all.
Those responsible must be held accountable, must face consequences, and must be jailed.
Furthermore, COPE supports the call for the establishment of an Ad Hoc Committee into State Capture to fully probe the relations of captured Ministers, the President and the Gupta family in this matter.
