Letter: Why does municipality cut cost on service delivery and not lazy workers salaries
Mr Mayor for being transparent about the financial state of our municipality. It's times like these where we all can make a valuable contribution by doing our part, no matter how little or big it might be!

Madam – As we approach that time where our companies, along with many others, are facing difficult times and cost saving is the number one priority, it just makes me wonder why our municipality cuts cost on service delivery and not within the employees and work place.
It’s shocking how municipal worker (yes office workers too, not just the ones who sit in the park instead of cleaning it) go to and leave work at any time that they feel like. While the rest of us are paid according to the hours spent at work.
They even have the privilege of taking their families to the work place (yes, they save on day care too while the rest of us still pay for it because our job does not allow such comforts). And let’s not forget all the free phone calls they can make to friends and families for hours on end.
They even sleep in their offices when they have domestic issues!!! Talk about perks!
Maybe if the municipality ran like any other company there would be a huge difference, I mean you wouldn’t pay your domestic worker for not coming in, right? So why pay an employee for time not spent at work. Let’s adjust the attitude of the workers and not adjust the budget because there are areas in dire need of attention. Start controlling and saving from within.
I’m sure that keeping control of the different sections and departments can’t be too hard with so many managers and heads in the sections…
Lastly, thank you Mr Mayor for being transparent about the financial state of our municipality. It’s times like these where we all can make a valuable contribution by doing our part, no matter how little or big it might be!
