Sir
New Year’s eve in the valley didn’t disappoint with the cacophonous noises of fireworks showing no respect for man or beast.
But what can be expected in a place where illegal fireworks can be bought on the streets without a licence and without fear of being arrested. By-laws – what does that mean again? Dundee has turned into the proverbial den of iniquity where lawlessness is the order of the day. Sellers of Temik, a poison used by ruthless thieves to kill pets, even come to peoples gates offering their wares.
Illegal shebeens and unlicensed tuckshops dot the streets.
Sewerage, burst water pipes and pot-holes are commonplace and just add to the scenery where cattle, goats and donkeys roam aimlessly.
Police suffer from sleeping sickness and municipal officials from amnesia. The majority are scared to view their opinions. They don’t want to be ostracised in a town where everyone knows each other.
Fast forward ten years. What will Dundee be like then? A hick town reminiscent of America’s deep south or another ghost town like Wasbank.
I have as much faith in the future prosperity of this town as I have in Zuma becoming the next Pope!
