ANC pays izindunas with money from poor Weenen people

"If President Jacob Zuma thinks that the izinduna are so important; that they must be paid then he should pay back the R 250 million that was spent on his Nkandla residence,

The Democratic Alliance is shocked that R45, 8 million budgeted for the electrification of 1 900 households in Weenen is to be paid to izinduna.

lzinduna, who are not democratically elected, will be paid salaries of R 84 125 per year and will deprive 1 900 poor rural families of access to electricity.

The 1 900 poor families, including young children, will for years continue indefinitely collecting firewood to cook with and using candles to study for the vital exams.

Clearly the African National Congress thinks the izinduna are more important than the very poor families of the Weenen area, where the economy has almost totally collapsed, where there are many failed ANC land reform projects and unemployment is so high that the majority of people are unemployed.

If President Jacob Zuma thinks that the izinduna are so important; that they must be paid then he should pay back the R 250 million that was spent on his Nkandla residence and that money can be used to pay the izinduna.

I have written to the Human Rights Commission to ask them to investigate the priority given to paying izinduna in place of providing services to the desperate people of Weenen.
