Editor – Re: H To O (H20) saga. Acaciavale and Ezakheni residents are being affected the worst by the water saga that has been going on for months on end.
Note that these are the areas where the disadvantaged people reside.
Last week we learnt a new word called TURBIDITY. It took the better part of three days to fix this turbidity.
Water was restored on Friday afternoon, only to disappear again on Sunday evening. Who actually works on a Sunday is questionable. Overtime due to the dedicated staff?
Schools had to close for Thursday and Friday, and no teaching could take place on Monday because of the pressure dropping again by the morning.
According to the constitution, water was supposed to be a basic right.
Why should schools find alternatives with our finances to keep their gates open when the performance should be coming from the mayor’s office?
If our mayor does not have a big axe, we can arrange for one.
Hopefully there was no year-end awards or performance bonus for this department.
The burning question is: why do we not have similar problems with the Spioenkop plant? Similar pumps and switch gear, along with a backup generator, ought to be standard equipment. If one pump should fail, others will continue with a pressure drop only. A spare pump should also be kept.
Is it that the people living in the “rich” areas won’t take this kind of service delivery, or is it a case of the meek shall inherit the arid earth.
The other possibility is that the owners of the tankers are taking “things” into their own hands.
In the name of transparency, can we please have pictures, names and qualifications of all the engineers, electricians and fitters, along with the supervisors, published. There should also be a few pictures of the pumps on-site so the public can envisage the problems.
We would also like to know how many tankers went out, at what cost and who owns them.
Our councillors should be allowed to visit the site and give the public some feedback. If uThukela has nothing to hide, along with an open door policy, then these requests will not be scorned.
