Thanks to the security guard for fighting crime

It is very brave to run after three when you are only one

Editor – Please allow me, through the Ladysmith Gazette, to congratulate and thank the security guard who chased after the ATM thieves, as reported in last week’s edition dated April 6.

It is very brave to run after three when you are only one. Well done!

The security guards working in this shopping centre are honest and take care of the shoppers.

I personally forgot my mobile phone in the ladies’ on a Sunday. When I phoned my number that evening, my phone was answered by one of the guards, who gave me his name and said that he had my phone. He told me where it was found and that I could collect it the next morning. He had even locked my phone for me.

With reference to the article ‘ATM card-cloners strike: woman ends up in ICU’, I suspect it is the same three men who have been targeting this particular centre and properties in the area for the last six weeks.

Residents who have seen them personally have given SAPS a description.

I suppose that, with a change of duty, this information is not passed on to the next person taking over.

Two weeks ago, a senior citizen walking with a walking aid was in this particular centre. As she was taking a trolley, one of three men came across to assist her. As she entered the store, she realised her bag was open and her wallet was gone, as well as the three men who had helped her. She said she never felt her bag being opened.

Beware! If it’s the same three, they can scale six-foot palisade fences and electric fencing as if stepping over a stone.
