Madam – With all that is happening politically in this country, no wonder South Africans are scared.
If the political parties are not encouraging land grabs without compensation, then they are content with calling out so-called racism among ethnic groups and sowing discord wherever they go. What bothers me most is that the voters then follow blindly without bothering to question why all these promises and ‘discussions’ are taking place now.
Stop and think about it. Next year is national elections, so if the government is promising you a million jobs, are you going to believe yet again that they will actually follow through with these promises?
No! They will say and do whatever it takes now to ensure they are either kept in power or rise to power, and then they will promptly put money in their own pockets and forget about the actual people who were relying on them to vote for them in the first place.
You could say that education is the first step to a truly democratic country, but when those in power prey on the weak and vulnerable, they do so by hiding behind promises that most never intend to keep, and that’s what makes me so angry.
I agree that in order to affect change, you need to stand up and make sure your voice is heard and your vote is counted, but don’t vote based on the empty promises of politicians who are around when it’s time for elections and then conveniently disappear when you need them the most.
Open your eyes and realise that some people just don’t care, and you have all the power to change that. Those people that loot the country and are never available to the man on the street, do not deserve your support.
It should not matter what colour we are. Votes should not be given just because someone is the same colour as you. We are all one nation. We all bleed red. And this country has bled us and continues to do so. I cannot afford to put petrol in my car and yet have to read about politicians who give contracts to family members worth millions and they get away with a slap on the wrist.
Their blatant disregard for the poor should not be tolerated. We need to stand together and force change!
