I have to concur with the letter penned by the ‘Positive Resident’. (Estcourt News, August 24, page 6).

How is it that other towns seem to look pretty and decent, and our small town is slipping into a cesspool of filth and oblivion with no hope of investment?
Watch the program ‘Pasella’ and notice the little towns that are visited and focussed on in that program. What do they have in common?
They are quaint old towns with a rich cultural heritage a majority of whose residents have the welfare and interest of their town at heart.

Why do we not adopt the same attitude? Yes, there are people here who are concerned about our town, but what about the others?
Even if you live outside of the area and come into town to do your grocery shopping and other activities, take pride in this place.
Do not litter … teach your children as well that littering is for idiots … as the ‘Positive Resident’ says ‘keep an eye out for, and report those who you see vandalising public property’ … cemeteries are being invaded and graves desecrated left, right and centre … where is the respect for those who have passed on?

Let us get together and get this plan to rescue our town INTO ACTION! What if we started collecting recyclables and getting them to schools who are involved in recycling programs?
That would mean less refuse lying around uncollected as there are problems surrounding the collection of refuse.Vegetable peels can be composted … and added to our gardens … people can get together to plant and beautify their surroundings … so much can be done …
I wish that we did not have to report neighbours for littering and dumping but this has to be done, because in this day and age, educated people should not be engaging in this type of behaviour. Nobody wants to live in filth!
TOGETHER WE CAN DO MORE FOR OUR TOWN.
